DA Nazis Strike Again!

Thu Apr 23, 2009, 11:00 AM
I am growing increasingly frustrated with the arbitrary nature of DA's violation policy. Yesterday I posted an image titled "Cry Havok". Today it was deleted by a DA staffer who deemed the image a violation of DA's rules. The picture was of Eli fully nude with his arms spread out. He wasn't touching himself or stoking himself or anything suggestive. He was just standing there naked.

Here is the complete note from DA:
The work(s) listed below have been removed by staff due to a violation of deviantART policy or because its theme or content was judged unacceptable. Your deviantART submissions must obey certain guidelines and restrictions.

I wish that the staff would at least give a definite reason as to why an image is pulled other than the extremely vague "content was judged unacceptable". What about it was objectionable?

At this point, I am having second thoughts about posting any further images on slmple principle. I am interested in knowing other artists' experiences with the DA police. I guess I could understand if Eli were masturbating or killing a small farm animal, but the most suggestive thing he was doing was stretching with his larger than usual penis dangling.

***Shortly after posting this minor rant - I recieved an additional not from the DA Staff***

Your deviation Cry Havok was reported for Prohibited Content. The report was reviewed by a member of the Staff and action was taken, deleting the deviation and marking the report as Resolved. Additionally, the following comment was provided:

A member of staff has reviewed this deviation and has determined that this content is unacceptable for submission here.

Again - I ask what was the big deal. There was nothing lewd about the straighforward shot. I've seen and archived pictures of erect penises, simulated masterbation, extreme close-ups of breats with rigid nipples as well as EXTREME close-ups of labias and vaginas - yeat somehow that isn't offensive to the finer sensibilities of the DA art Nazis.

I've been waging this battle for the entire time I've been associated with dA and have even been suspended for "pornographic" content. When I first started encounters with the Penis Nazis, I always submitted a reply asking for clarification and explanation of the so-called offense. Never have I received a response! Occasionally, that second note might contain the phrase "depiction of an erect penis", but you can't always count on that.

Other members have stopped contribution work because of this rampant practice. We are in common agreement about the EXTREME close-ups of female genitalia, some which sure look like a clitoris is definitely turgid or "moist".

One thing some of us have done is to watch the "comments" carefully and if we find some particularly vitriolic, we block that sender from access to our works. And, we've shared names.

Like you, I was ready to throw in the towel and quit submitting. But, I finally realized that's exactly what the self-righteous, self-appointed protectors of values and morality want. So, to hell with that. I won't be mowed down by this crap and so keep on submitting. If it leads to me being eventually banned (as some have been) then so be it.

Keep up the good work!

How many frequent flier miles would it take to send someone nonstop to hell?
:icondracine:
Yeah, that doesn't make sense to me at all. I've seen pictures of females showing their parts with a hand near it. That's ok but what you posted wasn't?

They really need someone to get their sh** together. Fast.

Thanks again! I honestly don't mind being edited as long as I know why. The vague and generic automated response doesn't spell out any specifics other than someone didn't like the work.

I appreciate your support.

I have had five or so pics pulled. And your right. They never give a reason why. This is all I'm asking for. I have tried contacting admin as well to no avail. I love this site but the fact that they don't give reasons is really lame
:iconnigol:
It almost seems like an anti penis crusade some of the time too......had to throw that in there
:iconmontroytana:
i dont understand
i looked at that series yesterday and i didnt find any of them remotely offensive

but i aways chime in and say that i really support da need to draw the line somewhere and im glad its not up to me to decide that line
but i dont understand how they do it or why one thing is removed and another isnt

i have the sense that its complaint driven that if the wrong prude sees yr image and complains then its yanked while dozens of "worse" images go unnoticed
:iconbreeze1212:
I could see if there were a complaint, and there should be some sort of jury of peers to determine to determine violations. The artist should also be told exactly what the complaint is so that we could at least argue for its inclusion. The image that was pulled was tame in comparison to say the close-up of Eli's penis with pre-cum leaking from the tip. I figured if anything, that would have been nuked.

Anyway, thanks to everyone who has taken time to chime in.

:iconbreeze1212:
It's a bit alarming as to what stays and goes. I had an underwear shot pulled for some reason. It didn't show an impression of a penis, just had the jeans opened to reveal the wasteband of the undies with the 2xist logo. Somehow it violated some holy statute of the guidelines. No reason other than it was removed for being in violation.

:iconviasaman:
I have some of the first nudes I posted moved to scraps for some reason that I was not told. Other than that I have not posted much nudes due to lack of models.
I have had friends leave or stop posting due to the no reason pulled pics they have posted. One day maybe they will start to explain why the delete it as more folks switch to flickr.
I really am sorry to hear of this going on with you as I faved both of those also.
I thought nothing was wrong with them and they were in good taste for art.
try editing them and repost.
